1. What elements did you look for when choosing lighting for this space?
The elements I looked for when I was choosing this lighting was something that was going to make a statement and take up some space since we have tall ceilings. It really gives a focal point when you enter the room and works very well with my current farmhouse style but is also very versatile across other styles.
2. What are the 3 must-haves when designing a living space?
When designing a space the first thing I want to make sure of is that it is welcoming. The space itself is inviting and bright. My big thing is creating a community space where everyone can gather. Whether that be the kitchen, living room, or even outside. The next thing I always include when designing a living space is color. Color really puts life into a space. You can use color to create a specific mood or feeling and in the same frame a lack of color can really leave a room looking dull and uninviting. The last thing I try to incorporate when designing a living space is a variety of texture and material. I love going antiquing and combining my finds to create the perfect accents and pieces and give a little bit of character.
3. Any interesting facts about the house? When was it built? Did you totally remodel it?
This house has been in the family for longer than I can remember. It is actually 2 houses put together, 1 of them moved from a different location and delivered here. My in-laws first lived here and then with time my husband and I bought it and raised our children in it. So many memories have been made here and continue to be made. This house holds all of the same character from when it was first built but since then has been remodeled completely and we are still making changes as we grow. This home really tells the story of our family. From the treehouse in the front yard, to the family tree nursery that is still in operation, this piece of land holds a very special place in our family's heart and we are so fortunate to be able to keep this place as the gathering spot for our family.
4. Proudest DIY project you’ve completed?
It is very hard to pick my proudest DIY project because to be honest I look at my home as a DIY in itself. Every project I start, it is to add to the work-in-progress that is my home. My husband and I put shiplap throughout our living room and guest bathroom and it even worked its way into our pantry which turned out amazing! We redid our pantry, adding shelving and organized baskets and some wallpaper, and I am in love with it! So many projects, it is hard to just pick one. Outside of our home, I repurposed these beautiful doors to create the entrance for my son's wedding, it came out absolutely beautiful.
5. What style would you love to try if you were to completely redecorate?
If I were to completely redecorate, some styles that I would be interested in playing with would probably be a mix between industrial and traditional. I like the classic details offered in traditional styling along with the mix of patterns and textures and I am drawn to the old timber and metal clashing of the industrial styling.
