Vegas Market Recap

How the West Was Won

August 09, 2019

Welcome to Las Vegas. It may be stiflingly hot out, but you won't be spending more than a few minutes out there anyway. Inside, creative minds and commerce have commingled to make environments in which to spend hours socializing, having fun, and soaking up experiences and inspiration. Having established presences now at Dallas (Lightovation), Paris (Maison & Objet), and High Point (erm, High Point), the next market we wanted to be a part of was Las Vegas. So, we set up shop at the World Market Center, which is the largest showroom complex dedicated to home and hospitality furnishings in the world.

Our new showroom presence in Vegas is about 19,000 square feet. (Which is, um, quite frankly, a lot of space). Spread across two showrooms, this gave our four brands a hitherto unrealized opportunity to contextualize and showcase their individual personalities. Ben, Designer at Troy & Corbett, has an interior design background. He relished the opportunity to create custom scenes and cozy enclaves for visitors to enjoy drinks, access to celebrity designers, and hanging out in a setting that fleshed out the brands' DNA. These inviting staged settings suggested atmospheres in which our lighting fixtures might play a key part.

From light and airy for Mitzi to dark and dramatic for Corbett, this helped communicate who we are in a physical setting. It was particularly nice to see this played out with Troy's fixtures and extensive exterior collection. Their indoor-outdoor California lifestyle was beautifully suggested by these green settings deep within the halls of a modern Vegas building.

Check out the video below to get more of Ben's thoughts on designing these spaces for market.

Market began on Sunday, July 28th. After a brunch we hosted and a ribbon-cutting ceremony before our two new spaces, our doors opened. Buyers, influencers, and designers began to find their way to us, milling in, getting some swag, and taking in the HVLG experience.

Shortly after, we kicked things off with a bang, Hollywood style. Martyn Lawrence Bullard got the party started with "Champagne and Chandeliers," his effervescent personality matching the bubbly beverages, his magical collection with Corbett all about him. Plenty of people attended, drinking their fill of Santorini Sunrises and snapping selfies with the man himself. Electic, multicultural food complemented Bullard's cosmopolitan collection.

The next day, we again hosted a brunch and had the absolute pleasure of being joined in person by the designer for the "Becki Owens x HVL Celebration" from 4-6.

Becki was a vision, joined by her husband Rich, holding court and meeting some of her many fans. Sweet, soft-spoken, and serious about design, she enjoyed meeting many of her fans and followers, who were excited to meet her.

Rosé lime spritzers were handed out and hors d'oeuvres passed around, while Becki graciously greeted her visitors and discussed the partnership with Hudson Valley Lighting in the East-Coast-meets-West-Coast lantern-focused collection.

We finished out our three-day extravanza with yet another brunch and a beautifully attended event with Mark D. Sikes raising a "Toast To The Classics."

Mark's CLASSICS collection of beautiful, approachable pieces was a labor of love, and it's easy to see the sense of pride and ownership he feels looking at these pictures.

Sikes talked with a curious and enthusiastic mélange of people coming to see the lights and their designer.

An All-American menu was served to go with Mark's signature All-American style. Spiked Arnold Palmer cocktails washed down fried mac 'n' cheese.

And look who dropped in! Thom Filicia (who you may recall from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy), saying hi and checking out Mark D. Sikes's CLASSICS

Also, this person  (Sir Robert Morrison, Buyer from Beverly Hills Luxury Interiors) wore a Pac-Man suit, which may be the single most amazing suit we have ever seen.

Ever detail-obsessed, David and Steve discuss some finer point about new Corbett family, Jasmine.

Just before things kicked off, Cindy Hodnett from Las Vegas Market caught up with HVL Founder and HVLG Chief Executive Officer David Littman about the four brands that make up Hudson Valley Lighting Group and what was ahead.

Overall, our first Vegas market was a smash success, and we enjoyed seeing and talking with our many visitors. We look forward to future markets at the World Market Center and many good times sharing our great new lighting fixtures ahead. To everyone who took the time to stop by, thank you! We appreciate your ongoing enthusiasm and interest. And to those of you missed it, we hope to see you next time.

Until then, Viva Las Vegas!
