Winners of Architectural SSL Magazine’s 9th annual Product Innovation Award have been announced, with Troy Lighting leading in the Luminaires category for the design of its Alchemy collection.

Architectural SSL – the only magazine dedicated to solid-state lighting and LEDs in the built environment – grants this award to products that represent the highest standards of forward-thinking lighting manufacturers. These awards showcase the most innovative LED and solid-state luminaires and fixtures on the market, which Architectural SSL determines as “likely to have a revolutionary impact.”

Alchemy, an industrial reconfiguration of the classic rise and fall pendant, was judged by a panel of 14 distinguished designers and lighting specialists skilled in product evaluation. According to Jim Crockett, Architectural SSL’s editorial director, “The SSL PIA program awards manufacturers based on attributes, qualities, functionality and/or performance beyond industry standards.” The award focuses on the design and functionality of products that exceed expectations.

“We are honored that Architectural SSL has judged us worthy of a PIA award," said Steve Nadell, president of Troy-CSL Lighting. “The design team at Troy works diligently to create inventive yet timeless designs like Alchemy. To be recognized as an innovator by a panel of our peers is the highest honor for us.”

As for the collection itself, Alchemy unites fine materials and clever design to make a strong impression. Alchemy’s opal white glass diffuser features a distinctly unique flat bottom encircled by a thick band of handworked iron. This iron is textured in vintage bronze to match the coloring of its saucer-like shade. Contrasting the deep bronze exterior is the champagne silver leaf finish of the shade’s interior, ideal for reflecting the warmth of the LED light within. The suspended pendant is counterbalanced by a weighted wrought iron sphere, which allows for the adjustment of the height of the light fixture itself. It is this aspect which gives this style pendant its name, as the light source itself can be adjusted to rise or fall through its cord and counterweight.
